Sam Harris is the author of the New York Times best-selling
book, "The End of Faith," the National Best-selling
book, "Letter to a Christian Nation," and winner
of the 2005 PEN award for nonfiction.
He is a neuroscientist, philosopher, best-selling author,
reluctant leader of the New Atheist Movement, an unwavering
advocate of reason and intellectual honesty, and one of the
most important proponents of Buddhist thought, specifically
meditation, compassion, and shakubuku (critical analysis and
ranking of religion) in American history. He's trying to bring
science toward Buddhism and Buddhism toward science, speaking
to each group separately. He believes religion can progress
through the process of reason and critical analysis, which
is what we believe as Nichiren Buddhists. We're in a fairly
unique position in the world of religion. No Abrahamic religion
could survive a serious intellectual attack, even if they
were to change a bit here and there. The Bible is simply too
riddled with problems. Even most other sects of Buddhism are
riddled with superstition. We could be the one religion left
standing after an onslaught of shakubuku on religion. Or we
could fall like the others. The choice is ours. The fate of
the world and of religion rests in our hands. He's talking
to us. We need to listen.
